Hi openforis collect team, I am trying to collect forest inventory data in a central server. I can not fix sample plot location myself. Surveyor are free to design their sample plots. So my surveyor want to go entering location data into collect during the survey time and will navigate the sample point location. How can I do this? thanks.

Dear Rajkumar,

there are basically two methods to choose: 1) you have predefined list of plots and plot coordinates in Sampling Point Data, and the surveyor can only select and record these plots, and you can get plot_target_location automatically in Mobile or 2) you let the surveyor freely enter the plot location coordinates.

Well, in your case if the surveyor defines target point coordinates before entering to the field, you can create a survey where the surveyor can enter plot_target_location and plot_actual_location coordinates. Then you can apply a function to compute distance for plot_actual_location from plot_target_location.

However, Collect Mobile is not a navigation tool; there are other Android apps for that purpose. It would even wiser to use a GPS receiver and add target points as waypoints as in Garmin gadgets, and use Navigate function of the GPS.

Hope this helps, Lauri
